Police resources
118. Ms Kirrilee Warr to the Minister for Police:
I have a
supplementary question. The minister mentioned that Inglewood is the most
policed Perth suburb. Regional communities like mine are struggling with the
same issues. When will the minister provide that permanent help?

The Speaker: Members! Member for Central Wheatbelt!
The Minister for Police.

I think there is
always a risk when responding to questions from others—you get verballed
in about two seconds flat. Let me be clear: I did not talk about Inglewood
being the most policed suburb; I think I might have referred to it as a very
highly policed location, and that is for a reason. There are issues there.
People in this chamber today are aware of those. I have no issue at all with resources
being deployed where they are needed, as I have just explained at some length.
I explained on Thursday at some length the resources and new initiatives that
we are deploying to intervene with juveniles at a young age to put them on the
right course and engage them, such as the election commitment we have made to
PCYCs, including the Geraldton one, of millions of dollars across the state to
get kids engaged and direct them away from mischief and a life that is not the
life we want for them.
I will continue to
do that, member. I continue to do that right across Western Australia. I will
continue to visit all the regions in Western Australia. As the Minister for
Great Southern, I had the pleasure of meeting all the police at the stations on
the way down to Albany, whether it was at Katanning, Mount Barker, Denmark or Albany.
They are great teams doing great work in our community. They are well resourced
and are meeting a range of challenges, but they are doing great work.
