❓ Mr Omodei questions the Premier about a significant budget increase for electorate officer reclassification, specifically seeking clarification on the nature and justification for the 100% increase over four years. The Premier explains the increase is due to the reclassification of Electorate Officers into higher salary bands and their subsequent progression within those bands.

I refer the Premier to the line item for electorate officer reclassification on page 70 of the 2005-2006 State Budget and ask -
(1) what does this line item refer to, and
(2) why is there an increase by approx 100% over the out years, from $426,000 in 2005 - 2006 to $803,000 in 2008 - 2009?

(2) The forward estimates provide for the increase in salaries as Electorate Officers previously in the Level 3 and Level 4 public service salary bands move to the Level 4 and Level 5 public service salary bands. In 2005-06, all Electorate Officers classified at Level 3 will be reclassified to Level 4.1, and all Electorate Officers classified at Level 4 will be reclassified at level 5.1. Over the next four years, it is expected that Electorate Officers' salaries will increase as they progress to the top point in their salary bands.
