In relation to the joint media release announcement by the Ministers for Tourism and Regional Development regarding funding for a North West festival, I ask:
(a) on what date was the Minister for Tourism's office or department first contacted regarding funding or support for such a festival, and by whom;
(b) on what dates and to whom did the Minister's departments seek support from other government/department/ministerial offices for a festival;
(c) what is the total amount of funding and what is the contribution from the Minister's departments;
(d) will the Minister please table the contract between his department/agency and Sunset Events and any other associated entities regarding the festival, and if not, why not;
(e) will the Minister please provide all correspondence initiated or received between his agencies/departments and Sunset Events regarding the North West Festival, and if not, why not;
(f) on what date was the contract signed;
(g) have any amendments been made to the contract, and if so, will the Minister please provide details; and
(h) on what dates have or will payments be made to Sunset Events or associated entities?

(a) Tourism Western Australia (Tourism WA) was first contacted by Manager Community Development, Town of Port Hedland on 14 October 2011.
(b) Tourism WA advised the Department of Regional Development and Lands (RDL) on 5 December 2011 that the North West Festival (previously titled Port City Annual) was being assessed for consideration under the Royalties for Regions Regional Events Program (REP). On 14 May 2012, a proposal was sent to RDL seeking formal consideration of the event through REP.
(c) The total State Government funding to Town of Port Hedland to conduct the North West Festival is $150,000 for 2012; $200,000 for 2013 and $250,000 for 2014. This funding is through Tourism WA's REP.
(d) Tourism WA entered into an agreement with Town of Port Hedland to sponsor the event. [See tabled paper no]
(e) The member is advised that he should request this information as a Freedom of Information request. The Member has asked a question which relates to all correspondence about the negotiation of a contract. The information is not withheld, however, if the Member seeks access he is encouraged to submit a Freedom of Information application so that appropriate consultations with third parties can be sought as provided for under the
Freedom of Information Act 1992
.
(f) The contract was signed by Tourism WA on Tuesday 14 August 2012 and finalised by Town of Port Hedland on Friday 17 August 2012.
(g) No amendments have been made to the contract since it was executed by Town of Port Hedland on Friday 17 August 2012.
(h) Refer to the Milestone Schedule included in the contract [see tabled paper no] (page 24).
