MARGARET RIVER GOURMET ESCAPE
738. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Tourism:
I understand that the Margaret River
Gourmet Escape won a top national award last night at the Australian Event Awards.
Can the minister please update the house?

AnswerView source ↗

Certainly. I know the member for
Vasse will be delighted with the success of the Margaret River Gourmet Escape.
Last night it was voted Australia's best tourism event, against some
pretty stiff competition, such as the Byron Bay Bluesfest and the Santos Tour
Down Under in South Australia. That is a fantastic result, and well done to the
south west, Tourism WA and royalties for regions. I would also like to
compliment the former Minister for Tourism who did a great deal to promote the
event, and indeed was a key feature of the Gourmet Escape himself!
This has been a very good few weeks
for national recognition of what is being achieved in tourism in Western Australia.
The Margaret River Gourmet Escape was voted as the best tourism event in
Australia.
Mr
P. Papalia interjected.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Yes, I know you hate it.
The National Anzac Centre was just
last week voted the best museum in Australia. Back in August, all the
magnificent work at The Gap and Natural Bridge in Albany was voted the best
landscape project in Australia. That is three national firsts in just the last
few weeks. These are good times for our tourism industry and they very much
vindicate the investment that this state government has made in attractions and
activities in Western Australia.
