(1) How many Large-Scale Generation Certificates does Synergy require to meet its Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET) by 2020? (2) What is the required MW of nameplate capacity required to meet the LRET obligation using a single wind farm? (3) What is the required MW of nameplate capacity required to meet the LRET obligation using a single solar farm? (4) What is the estimated cost of (2) and (3)? (5) When would tendering and construction begin for (2) and (3) to meet the LRET requirement in 2020?

(1) Based on current estimates, Synergy is required to procure approximately 880,000 LGCs to meet its LRET in 2020.
(2) Based on a national average capacity factor of 39 per cent, approximately 260MW would be required using a single wind farm.
(3) Based on a national average capacity factor of 28 per cent, approximately 370MW would be required using a single solar farm.
(4) A wind farm is estimated to cost between $570 million and $650 million to construct.
A solar farm is estimated to cost between $700 million and $800 million to construct.
Construction costs vary based on geography, network proximity, foreign exchange rates, type of technology used and rates of decline in the cost of the technology itself.
(5) A typical project would have a lead time of six months.
A typical solar project would take 12 months to build meaning construction should begin in January 2019.
A typical wind project would take 24 months to build meaning construction should begin in January 2018.
