Burswood entertainment precinct—Outdoor amphitheatre
840. Hon Julie Freeman to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer to the
proposed Burswood entertainment precinct outdoor amphitheatre and note that
community consultation on the project is now open.
(1) How many existing venues in Perth currently
cater to audiences of 15,000 to 20,000 people?
(2) What consideration was given during planning
to developing a smaller scale venue that would better support local performers
and the broader creative industries sector?
(3) Which stakeholder groups have or will be
consulted on the proposal?
(4) Has any stakeholder feedback received to date
raised concerns about the proposed capacity?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Sport and Recreation.
(1)–(4) There is a
significant venue capacity gap in Perth between smaller venues of 1,000 to
2,500 people and larger venues like RAC Arena. There are also significant costs
that have to be incurred in setting up temporary venues. West Australian Music,
RTR FM, Chamber of Arts and Culture Western Australia, Artrage Inc (Fringe
World Festival), Perth Festival, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Perth
Symphony Orchestra, Mellen Events, Mushroom Group, Live Nation Australia, Department
of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, VenuesWest and the Burswood Park
Board have all been consulted on the amphitheatre.
