I refer to the Auditor General's
report titled ''Working with Children Checks—Follow-up'',
which was tabled on Wednesday, 23 October 2019.
(1) Of the 52 applicants issued with an interim
negative notice within 200 days, how many were either charged or found
guilty of a sex offence for the period?
(2) What was the nature of the
charge or conviction against each individual?

(1)–(2) The
Auditor General's report refers to 25 applicants who were issued with
an interim negative notice. Of those 25 applicants, 19 were either charged with
or found guilty of a sex offence. Interim negative notices prohibit a person
from engaging in child-related work during the assessment or reassessment
period, until a final decision is made. Interim negative notices are issued
when the presenting information indicates that there is an immediate and
unacceptable risk of working prior to a final decision being reached. All of
the 25 people met the threshold for an interim negative notice to be issued as
per the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004, as they
posed an unacceptable risk to children.
