Water licences
331. Hon Philip Scott to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Water:
The Auditor General
tabled a report to WA Parliament on 11 June titled Regulation of Water Licences , which concluded
that the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation does not effectively
monitor or enforce the conditions of 12,000 water licences in WA. On 12 June,
the Minister for Water published a media statement announcing a $16 million
boost to "support environmental and water resource assessments throughout
WA".
(1) Will this additional budget spend improve the
department's ability to monitor and enforce water licences?
(2) If so, is this an example of the Cook Labor government
policymaking on the run when it comes to Western Australia's water security?
