I thank the member for the
question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for
Fisheries.
(1) Yes.
(2) The committee
members are Mr Ross Donald, chairman; Mr Keith Tocas; Ms Katherine Webber; and Ms Natalie Moore, a representative from the
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
(3) The committee members have considerable experience
in fisheries compensation processes and their operation.
(4) It has been a longstanding practice, including
under the former Liberal–National government, that potential claimants to compensation under a voluntary
fisheries adjustment scheme do not present to the committee. The abalone
fisheries representative will have the opportunity to provide a written
submission to the committee. This approach
recognises the need for the committee to provide independent and objective
advice to the Minister for Fisheries that is free from subjective
representation or lobbying from affected parties.
