BROWSE LNG
PROJECT — WOODSIDE
8. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Considering that the Premier
has interfered in this project along the way and stakes his reputation on this
project proceeding, and the fact that significant public money is being
invested in getting the project to where it is today, has the Premier received
advice in the past week from the joint venture partners, including Woodside,
that it will not be proceeding?

AnswerView source ↗

I have not received advice to that effect from the joint
venture partners at all. The Leader of the Opposition —
Mr M. McGowan :
What have you received?
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
Do you want to go through my rubbish bin? I mean, really!
Mr M. McGowan : It's
actually a question of some importance.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
You have asked your question! The Leader of the Opposition claims that I have
interfered in the project.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members!
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
You call it interference; name me a project in this state a leader of Western
Australia has not interfered! C.Y. O'Connor's pipeline to
Kalgoorlie—John Forrest had a bit to do with it. The North West Shelf
project, the iron ore mines of the Pilbara—Charles Court had a bit to
do with that. I do not put myself in the same class, but I am going to have a
bit to do with it!
