I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Yes. The
registration scheme for building practitioners and building contractors does
not distinguish between residential and commercial builders. The data includes
all persons or entities deregistered and refused
a renewal in 2023, a proportion of which will be involved in residential
building. A total of 610 building practitioner and building contractor
licences have been deregistered this calendar year.
(a) Eleven total
building practitioner and building contractor licences were refused renewal
this calendar year.
(b) Potential
reasons for refusal include, for building practitioners, a failure to meet
requirements related to experience,
qualifications or fitness and propriety; and, for building contractors, a failure to meet financial, management, supervision requirements, having an
ineligible nominated supervisor, having
unpaid building service debts or where individuals, partnerships and companies ,
including directors, have experienced an insolvency event.
