CITY OF
CANNING — COMMISSIONERS
1063. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
minister representing the Minister for Local Government:
I refer to the appointment of three
commissioners to the City of Canning.
(1) Were the commissioner positions
advertised and in what format?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) What were the selection criteria
for the positions?
(4) Who were the individuals on the
selection panel?
(5) What key performance indicators
will be applied to these commissioners?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1) No.
(2) Under the Local Government Act 1995 there is no
requirement to advertise such positions.
(3) Provisions
about the appointment of commissioners are contained within schedule 2.4 of the
Local Government Act 1995. There are no set selection criteria.
(4) There was
no selection panel. The appointments are made by the Governor on the
recommendation of the Minister for Local Government.
(5) There are
no formal key performance indicators; however, as commissioners are effectively
taking the role of council, they have the same obligation as council to provide
good governance for the residents and ratepayers of the district.
