AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Since 1 March 2001, 389 computers, including laptops, have been reported stolen from 195 schools across the State. (2) The Government continues to pursue the highest levels of security for schools. These include electronic alarm systems, security patrols throughout the metropolitan area, the school watch program, support from local government security services, and police support through normal patrols and the canine squad. Also, some schools have additional security measures, such as additional lighting, screens and security devices for individual pieces of equipment. The Department of Education also provides additional funding for fencing of schools at which the crime is of a high level. (3) Over the next four years, schools will be provided with additional capital works funding for improved security systems and programs that are designed to better protect school sites.
