I refer the minister to the Government’s decision to provide a rebate equivalent to 0.05 per cent of the Totalisator Agency Board betting turnover to the racing industry, worth $4.3 million this year, and ask - (1) Is it necessary for the racing industry to justify the way in which this rebate is used? (2) If so, what are the guidelines for its expenditure? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS

AnswerView source ↗

(1)-(2) The Government anticipates that the increased revenue to the racing codes will go to those who participate in the racing industry through stakes, and stakes have increased across the racing codes as a result.  The position continues to be monitored.
