The minister has advised me that she would ensure that answers are provided to my questions to her today. (1) Since 1 July 2009, how many approaches have been made to Department for Child Protection district offices for assistance with funeral costs? (2) How many of these approaches have resulted in formal applications being made for funeral assistance? (3) How many formal applications for funeral assistance have been granted since 1 July 2009? Since the department announced that funeral assistance would cease, any callers have been advised of alternative financial assistance, such as the bereavement allowance and bereavement benefit payable to eligible recipients of commonwealth support. (2) Not applicable. (3) Since 1 July 2009, there has been one formal application for funeral assistance granted for one unclaimed body. This was via the Public Trustee and in accordance with current and ongoing policy.
