(1) Will the minister confirm that the child protection unit at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children was to have been allocated a total of $2.656 million, and capital costs of $570 000, to increase the existing capacity of that unit to provide therapeutic services to children who are victims of abuse? (2) Will the minister inform the Parliament of the source of that additional funding, which was announced by Premier Gallop on 3 December 2002, when, in response to the Gordon inquiry, he announced that $75 million worth of new initiatives would be aimed at combating child abuse and family violence in Aboriginal communities. (3) Will the minister confirm whether the additional therapeutic services provided by the child protection unit for victims of child abuse have been put in place? (1) The Government’s allocation of $6.501 million over four years to the Department of Health to support the implementation of the Government’s response to the Gordon inquiry, which was announced in November 2002, was revealed in the state budget.  This included the relocation and expansion of the child protection unit. (2) The source of these funds is consolidated revenue excluding capital funding of $570 000. (3) Premises have been leased in order to run a joint service with the Department for Community Development and the police, and the therapeutic service will be located on these premises.  The preparation of these premises is being completed.  Subsequently, the additional provision of therapeutic services will be considered.
