ALBANY RING-ROAD — FEDERAL FUNDING
270. Mrs R.M.J. CLARKE to the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the McGowan Labor
government's unprecedented commitment to the Albany ring-road, which
the previous Liberal–National government failed to provide any funding
for in eight and a half years.
(1) Can the
minister advise the house when the commonwealth government's matching
funding will flow to the state?
(2) Can the minister outline to the house what she is
doing to ensure this matching commonwealth funding is delivered as quickly as possible and that Albany
is not ignored by the federal Liberal–National government?

I thank the member for that
question.
(1)–(2) It is of course WA Labor that put the Albany
ring-road back on the map down in Albany. We are very proud —
Mr D.C. Nalder interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Bateman, please. I want to hear this.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : We are very,
very proud that we put money into that project from day one. We have been at
the federal government trying to secure the rest of the money and members would
have heard our announcement in this place last week that we have secured the
extra money from the federal government. But of course, there is a problem with
the cash flow and we are working through that. A lot of bizarre statements have
been made about the Albany ring-road, mainly by the member for Scarborough. We
all know about the tweet at quarter to one! At quarter to one in the morning
she tweeted about the Albany ring-road! What was the member doing that would
cause her to do a tweet at quarter to one in the morning? We know that the
member for Hillarys has a record of making phone calls to the former member for
Hillarys very early in the morning, too. I do not know how members opposite
operate!
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members,
please.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : The Premier
was not here last week so I will show him a copy of that tweet. We know the
member must have been embarrassed because that tweet was deleted after we
raised it in Parliament. Last Thursday another bizarre and slightly odd thing
happened. During 90-second statements the member for Scarborough stood up and
again told, I will say, not the truth about the Albany ring-road. She said that
state Labor had not put up funding for the construction and that state Labor's
funding would not appear until 2020–21. That is absolutely false. State
Labor is very committed to this project and we are working at it. We are not
happy with that federal cash flow. That is why we went back to the federal
government on Friday. We are working with the federal government to bring that
cash flow forward so we can get on with it. We are serious about that project
and we will deliver that project.
