ASSET SALES — WESTERN POWER —
REGIONAL CONSUMERS
338. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the Leader of
the National Party:
I refer to the Liberal Party's
plan to privatise Western Power, a process that is happening in New South
Wales.
(1) Is the
minister aware that in New South Wales, on 1 July 2016, the price for country
electricity consumers' grid connections will increase by more than
twice as much as the increase for consumers in Sydney?
(2) Is this the
future for Western Australian electricity consumers with regional consumers
paying more to private asset owners?

(1)–(2) I
thank the member for Cannington for the question. These are all the elements
that need to be discussed in a discussion about privatising or selling Western
Power as a whole or in part or whatever it might be. It is around pricing,
access, the business challenges in regional Western Australia and the
fringe-of-grid areas. A whole range of issues need to be worked through, and,
as I have said in response to questions from the Leader of the Opposition, the
National Party intends to do that.
