Dr. Pettitt questions why WA hasn't transferred Housing Authority properties to community housing organisations in the last five years, unlike other states/territories, and inquires about planned transfers for 2024-25. The Minister responds that transfers don't increase overall social housing stock and highlights alternative government support for community housing.

COMMUNITIES — HOUSING AUTHORITY —
PROPERTIES
1392. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to table
18A.2 from the Report on government services 2024 .
(1) Why is the WA state government the only state or
territory in the previous five years not to have transferred any Housing
Authority property to community housing organisations?
(2) How many
Housing Authority properties does the WA government plan to transfer to
community housing organisations in 2024–25?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Housing.
(1)–(2) Transferring existing social housing assets to the
community housing sector would not provide an increase to the social
housing stock or the total number of dwellings in Western Australia. The Cook
Labor government has led a number of
initiatives that support and grow the community housing sector, including the allocation of more than $200 million in direct grants to deliver new
builds, refurbishments and several large-scale community housing developments,
such as those at Pier Street and Smith Street.
