Telethon Community Cinemas
99. Mr Basil Zempilas to the Premier :
I have a
supplementary question. Is the Premier aware that the Burswood Park Board has
been advised that the alternative site offered for Telethon Community Cinemas
is completely inadequate and will likely lead to the closure of this much-loved
community event?

AnswerView source ↗

It is just simply
incorrect. The Burswood Park Board is activating the precinct by enabling three
great community events to run at or around the same time. The cinema site
clashes with two other popular events, the annual Santa's Symphony and the WA
Day celebrations. I am advised the board has offered the cinema an alternative
location and will work to continue—
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader.
Mr Roger Cook: It will continue to work with the
organiser to find a suitable location. This has nothing to do with our
government's commitment to establish a new world-class multipurpose community
entertainment and sports precinct.
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members! Leader of the Opposition and
Treasurer, both of you are getting very close to being called. Please desist
the cross-chamber conversations between yourselves.
