BUSHFIRE READINESS REVIEW
I refer to the commitment made by the Premier in February 2009 to undertake a Western Australian bushfire readiness review. (1) Given that it is dated April 2009, why has the Premier only tabled the review today? (2) Has the “State Level Strategic Prescribed Burning Policy”—prepared by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority, the Department of Environment and Conservation and local government as recommended by the review—been considered by cabinet; and, if not, why not? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) The government sought to address and implement as many of the recommendations as soon as possible and to include the status of this implementation in the final report. (2) The “State Level Strategic Prescribed Burning Policy” has not yet been to cabinet. The Fire and Emergency Services Authority is coordinating meetings with the Department of Environment and Conservation and local government with a view to preparing the “State Level Strategic Prescribed Burning Policy”, which will guide the approval process for the annual master prescribed burning program. The first meeting is to be conducted in December 2009.
