(a) Assuming the member is referring to the consumer tourism website (
www.westernaustralia.com
), the cost to build the site was $322,900 (exclusive GST).
(b) Content from the previous consumer tourism website was reused on the new consumer tourism website. Existing images and video were sourced from Tourism Western Australia's Image and Footage library. $20,000 (exclusive GST) was spent on an external contractor specifically to write new copy for the new consumer tourism website.
(c) Approximately $30,400 per annum (exclusive GST) based on current utilisation.
(d) westernaustralia.com uses existing content generated by Tourism Western Australia's Destination Public Relations unit as part of its normal day-to-day activities. In addition to normal self-maintenance of the website by staff and the tourism industry, it is planned that $10,000 (exclusive GST) will be spent on an external contractor to write additional new copy for westernaustralia.com in 2007/08.
(e) No.
(i) Not applicable.
(ii) Tourism Western Australia has an Online Marketing Team responsible for developing online marketing initiatives and campaigns. It also maintains westernaustralia.com. The Online Production Manager oversees and co-ordinates the content and maintenance of westernaustralia.com in amongst their normal duties. This is currently a level six position with an annual salary of $70,564 to $78,138
(f) Yes
(i) Tourism Western Australia has budgeted $70,000 (exclusive GST) in 2007/08 for search engine marketing activities to drive more visitors to westernaustralia.com from the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia from major search engines like Google.
(g) Tourism Western Australia does not measure its performance based on hits as this is an outdated and often very misleading measurement tool. People often visit websites more than once within a month. The 'Visits' figure captures the total number of visits to a website. 'Monthly unique visitors' provides an unduplicated measure, that is, the same person visiting the website multiple times within the month is only counted once.
The current version of westernaustralia.com was launched in May 2007. Since then the results have been:
