AIRPORT RAIL PROJECT
1027. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the answer that the parliamentary secretary
provided to question without notice 623 of 15 October, in which he advised that
railcars purchased for the airport rail line would be stored at the Claisebrook
depot, and to the recent advice of the managing director of the Public
Transport Authority that storing the trains for the airport line at the
Claisebrook depot is not the current view.
(1) Has the
parliamentary secretary sought advice on which is the correct position; and, if
yes, on what date?
(2) Does the
parliamentary secretary stand by his answer to question without notice 623 as
being correct?
(3) If no to
(2), when did the parliamentary secretary become aware that his answer was
incorrect, and why did he not immediately notify the house?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Yes; 7
November.
(2)–(3) The
Public Transport Authority is currently seeking to build additional stowage
facilities at Claisebrook depot, subject to development approval from the
Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority. If additional stowage is built at this
location, it will allow for storage of additional railcars that will service
the government's Forrestfield airport link. Final decisions on
necessary rolling stock, how it is maintained and where it is stored are yet to
be made.
