DEPARTMENT
OF PARKS AND WILDLIFE — PUBLIC LAND LEASE
720. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the minister representing the Minister for Environment:
I refer to Department of Parks and
Wildlife Lease 1490/97, leasing 394 hectares of public land to the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (Western
Australia) Inc for $1 800 per year, subject to consumer price indexed
increases.
(1) How did the
department determine that $1 800 per year was a fair and reasonable rent to
pay?
(2) How does this
rental compare with other leases in state forest?
(3) When did the
details of the lease signed on 12 May 2015 first become public?
(4) Why does the
lease document say it is for a term of 11 years while recording that the expiry
date is 31 March 2034?
(5) With regard
to vegetation damage, how will the department ensure revegetation and
rehabilitation of the site occurs?
(6) Why is the
lessee not required to produce a revegetation plan?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question. The Minister for Environment has provided the following response.
(1)–(2)
The rental is consistent with the Department of Parks and Wildlife's schedule
of rentals for recreational state forest leases for organisations with a
membership between 151 and 250 members.
(3) 16 June
2015.
(4) A
typographical error was made. The numerical value of the lease period is 19
years as indicated in the lease. The department is correcting the typographical
error.
(5) The
department will monitor the lease and ensure the lessee's obligations
under clause 15.5 for reinstatement of the leased area are met.
(6) Clause 15
is considered adequate to enable effective reinstatement of the property.
