AIR SERVICES — REGIONS
987. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the announcement on 15 August
2023 of the awarding of exclusive rights to operate air services on select
regulated regional Western Australian routes.
(1) How many
compliant tenders were received by the Western Australian government in
response to the open tender process for the following regulated routes —
(a) Albany, Esperance, Carnarvon and
Monkey Mia; and
(b) Mt Magnet, Meekatharra, Wiluna,
Laverton and Leonora in the northern goldfields?
(2) What regulatory or contractual actions are
available to the minister in the event of any contractual breaches by
operators on the regulated air routes?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) (a)–(b) The level of interest in the routes varied;
either one or two submissions were received for each route.
(2) The deed of
agreement with the airlines operating on these routes allows the Department of
Transport to discharge the deed in some circumstances that relate to
commonwealth licensing requirements, solvency, the performance of services and
other circumstances.
