(1) Yes. Alcoa of Australia have announced a proposal to expand its land holdings around the Alcoa Wagerup Refinery. Development of this buffer zone is dependent on acceptance by the local community and the Alcoa Board. (2) No. However, both I and the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources are aware of the strategies currently being considered by Alcoa to reduce community exposure to refinery emissions. This includes the establishment of a buffer zone.
