(a) The annual cost of the Newborn Hearing Screening Program is $350,000.
(b) and (i) The service is currently offered in the metropolitan area.
A research trial of the metropolitan Newborn Hearing Screening Program has been completed. Whilst the results of this trial were equivocal, the program was continued in recognition of the fact that work interstate and overseas supports the value of newborn hearing screening. The current program will be evaluated in two years time.
