I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Since 30
April 2012, the Department of Environment and Conservation has received 46 odour
complaints alleging the emissions originated from the Southern Metropolitan
Regional Council Regional Resource Recovery Centre. Determining an accurate
number of complaints made directly to SMRC and then forwarded to DEC would
require further examination of DEC's incidents and complaints
management system. This could not be achieved in the time available.
(2) Since 30
April 2012, DEC has undertaken 33 field assessments in relation to the SMRC's
licence odour conditions, and also in response to odour complaints. Of the 33 field
assessments, six were the result of 11 odour complaints. DEC detected odour
during these six assessments.
