CLOSED-CIRCUIT TELEVISION STRATEGY
246. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question. I note that the minister did
not answer the question about whether the total $13.5 million will be spent on
closed-circuit televisions as promised over the course of this term. I ask
that. If the government has not been able to make Blue Iris work over the past
six years, how can anyone have any faith that the minister's new plan
will be any better?

I invite the Leader of the Opposition to actually read the
draft ''Western Australian State CCTV Strategy'' because it does —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Cannington, I call you to order for the second time. Member for
Victoria Park, I do not want to hear from you.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
The report and the draft state CCTV strategy go some way to address the
deficiency of Blue Iris and why it is not the right sort of registration system
for us in 2015 and as we move forward. I invite the Leader of the Opposition to
read the strategy; it goes into detail on that. The state CCTV working group did a lot of work and delved into this
issue of CCTV and the appropriate types of CCTV infrastructure to invest in and
how we should roll out this strategy. It is all in the report, so I invite
members to read it. With respect to the remainder of the commitment, we have until 2017 to achieve that. I
do not believe in just allocating money and spending it until I am sure that I
will g et the best value for
taxpayers—and I make no apology for that.
