Green sea turtles—Scott Reef
833. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Minister for the
Environment
Can the minister provide an updated number of
successful green sea turtle hatchlings that were monitored at the breeding
ground on Sandy Islet on Scott Reef for each of the past five breeding seasons
and, if not, when will this information be made available?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I give the following
response, which was provided on 20 August, on behalf of the Minister for the
Environment.
I am advised that
the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation does not have this data.
The department advises that Woodside has committed to monitoring the number of
successful green sea turtle hatchlings as part of the draft turtle management plan
for the Browse to North West Shelf project, which is publicly available on the
Environmental Protection Authority website. I table a copy of the turtle management
plan. The Browse to North West Shelf project is under assessment by the EPA and
I will consider the EPA's recommendations once the assessment is complete.
