1093. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the Minister for Innovation and
the Digital Economy:
I refer the minister to a media
release by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia dated 30 June 2023
regarding the hacking of law firm HWL Ebsworth, which manages over 300 motor
vehicle insurances claims, and a statement by the commission —
The details of the data that has been
accessed are not yet known and these are part of a live investigation the
Insurance Commission is actively supporting.
(1) Which agency of government is
carrying out the investigation to which the commission refers?
(2) What is the status of the
investigation?
(3) If that investigation is
complete —
(a) when was it completed; and,
(b) what were its findings?
(4) When does
the government intend to introduce legislation to reform Western Australia's
data privacy and security laws?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. Honourable member, questions relating to the
Insurance Commission of Western Australia should ordinarily be asked of the
Treasurer and the ''prees'' given through me; however, I have
provided a coordinated response between the two offices.

investigation.
(2) The investigation is ongoing.
(3) (a)–(b) Not applicable.
(4) Drafting of this complex piece
of legislation continues.
