I refer to
ex gratia
payments made to persons alleging police misconduct in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 to date and I ask:
(a) how many of these payments were made in each of those years;
(b) list the amount of each payment and the date it was awarded; and
(c) what is the procedure for assessing the allegations and determining the quantum of said payments and by whom are such payments authorized?

(a-c) While individual agencies, including WA Police, review requests for an Act of Grace payment  prior to that request being submitted to the Treasurer for approval (Treasurer's Instruction 419),
ex gratia payments
can only be authorised by Cabinet under its executive powers. Requests for an ex gratia payment are properly made to the Attorney General for consideration as to whether he would recommend to Cabinet that such a payment should be made. Accordingly, questions regarding ex gratia payments should be directed to the Department of the Attorney General
