(1) The seminar in Busselton on 30 June was one of a series of information evenings organised by the Research Division of the Department of Fisheries. Similar information evenings are to be held in Geraldton on 7 July and Perth on 14 July. The object of the series is to bridge the gap between scientific study and practical experience by discussing current dhufish and snapper research work with interested fishers and the wider public.
(2) The Busselton seminar was publicised through advertisements in the Busselton-Margaret River Times (24 June) and Bunbury Mail (23 June) and an article in the Bunbury Mail. Advertising flyers were distributed through the Busselton Fisheries Office and the Naturaliste Fishing Club, with copies forwarded to the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council, Conservation Council, Recfishwest and WA Fishing Industry Council.
(3) The seminar held at Murdoch University was organised by Recfishwest. Enquiries regarding proceedings should be directed to Mr Frank Prokop of that organisation. Members of the public can also find information on the state of the dhufish fishery in the West Coast Demersal Scalefish section of the State of the Fisheries Report, available online at www.fish.wa.gov.au/sof/index.html.
