I refer to my question on notice No. 401, concerning the Busselton Foreshore Steering Committee (Steering Committee), and the Minister’s answer referring me to the answer to question on notice No. 393. The Minister’s answer to question on notice No. 393 does not answer the questions contained in question on notice No. 401, and I ask -
(1) How does the Minister reconcile his answer that, ‘the composition of the Committee is currently being finalised in consultation with the local member and the community’ with the letter from the Member for Vasse to the Shire of Busselton CEO of 9 December 2008, in which the Member for Vasse states he has appointed the members of the Steering Committee?
(2) How does the Minister reconcile his answer (as stated in (1) above) with the fact that the Steering Committee has already had an inaugural meeting with the Member for Vasse?
(3) What role, if any, did the Minister have before 9 December 2008 in appointing the members of the Steering Committee?

(1-3) I received a letter from the Member for Vasse on 3 December 2008 proposing the establishment of a Busselton Foreshore Steering Committee and seeking nominations for the committee. I agreed with the proposal for a steering committee and advised that the South West Development Commission would consult and progress the matter.
No appointments have been made by me. The South West Development Commission has been liaising with the Shire of Busselton and the Local Member to progress these matters.
The advice I have now received from the South West Development Commission, in light of both discussions the Commission has had with Shire staff and Busselton Shire Council resolution C0902/066 of 25 February 2009, is that the steering committee proposed by the Member for Vasse should not proceed and consultation should occur through a working group of the Busselton Shire Council. I have accepted this advice and the Commission is progressing the matter with the Shire of Busselton.
