DANGEROUS SEXUAL OFFENDERS — RELEASE
716. Mr P.A. KATSAMBANIS to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Given that more dangerous
sex offenders are being released under the Premier's watch, will he now
consider mandatory minimum sentencing for paedophiles, like the tough new laws
that the federal Liberal government has introduced?

Honestly, the member for Hillarys asking these questions,
with his history when he was on that panel, with the individual who was
permitted to stay in the country, back when the member was on that panel in
Victoria —
Mr P.A. Katsambanis interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Hillarys!
Mr M. McGOWAN : I do not think the member for Hillarys,
of all people, should be asking these questions. The member knows what
happened, and I am reluctant to raise it, but —
Mr P.A. Katsambanis interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Hillarys!
Mr M. McGOWAN : If the member wants me to raise it, I will.
Maybe the Attorney General will come in and explain the situation exactly
tomorrow.
We have toughened the laws. We have made it far more
difficult for dangerous sex offenders to be released. We have applied far more
conditions to these people. That is the truth of the matter. If the member
wants to continue to raise these issues, we will continue to point out the
record of the past government.
