I thank the member for some notice of this question.  I am advised - (1) About 150 new direct jobs will be created at the refinery and mine site.  Currently, 900 people are employed at the Wagerup refinery and Willowdale mine, 40 per cent of whom live in the town surrounding the refinery.  One thousand peak construction jobs will be created at the refinery. (2) The 3 000 direct and indirect jobs created include the 150 new direct jobs at the refinery-mine site and a wide range of jobs in the community including professional, skilled and unskilled positions.  However, the breakdown of the particular types of jobs has not been provided.  The 3 000 jobs result from the increase in economic activity associated with the expanded capacity of the Wagerup refinery. (3) The modelling was undertaken on Alcoa’s behalf by ACIL Tasman Pty Ltd and it used a combination of the prime model, the Monash model and input, output analysis.
