Given the Government is prepared to spend $10.15 million over the next couple of years developing e-Tourism marketplace which will significantly affect tourism distribution channels, I ask -
(1) Will Tourism WA be sending anyone to the 2007 Travel Distribution Summit in Singapore to make sure that the Minister’s Department is up to date with the latest trends and issues in this area?
(2) If not why not?

(2) Attendance of Australian based staff at overseas conferences is of necessity limited because of the costs involved, however, Tourism Western Australia staff employ a variety of means to stay current in this area. This includes professional development activities such as subscriptions to digital marketing eNewsletters, Podcasts, RSS feeds and active use of online community sites to read and exchange information with experts online. They also work closely with appointed digital marketing agencies which are experts in digital marketing and consumer trends and can advise on strategy and direction. Tourism Western Australia staff also attend and contribute to Australian based networking events and committees, which regularly discuss digital travel trends and include high level representation from all State Tourism Organisations and Tourism Australia. Where possible, staff attend Australian based digital marketing related events.
