Dr. Walker asks about the number and type (indoor/outdoor) of licensed medical cannabis grow operations in WA, advocating for outdoor grows due to lower carbon emissions. The Minister for Health states that the WA government doesn't have this information as cultivation is nationally regulated.

MEDICAL CANNABIS —
LICENSED OPERATIONS
973. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I
refer the minister to a recent paper published in the Agricultural Science
and Technology Journal , which concluded that outdoor cannabis
agriculture can be 50 times less carbon-emitting than indoor production.
(1) How many
licensed medical cannabis grow operations are currently operating in Western Australia?
(2) Of those in (1), how many are
indoor and how many are outdoor?
(3) Will the
minister and her colleagues keep this research in mind when they come to
consider future licence applications, with an aim to increasing the portion of
grows that occur outdoors, helping not only patients and businesses, but also
our precious environment at one and the same time?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following has been provided by the Minister
for Health.
(1)–(3) As
the cultivation and manufacture of medicinal cannabis is nationally regulated
by the commonwealth under the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967, the Western Australian
government does not have information on the specifics of licensed cannabis grow
operations.
