Social housing—Inglewood
112. Mr David Bolt to the Minister for
Housing and Works:
I have a supplementary
question. Will the minister join me in meeting with the concerned residents
straight after question time so that he can hear directly how this is affecting
their lives?

AnswerView source ↗

I am happy to meet the
residents. I understand that the member is after a political stunt or a gotcha
moment.
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members!
(Interruption from
the gallery.)
The Speaker: Gallery, there will be no interjections
from up there.
Mr John Carey: I am happy to meet the residents but
can I say this: I understand that you are after a political stunt and a gotcha
moment—
Several members
interjected.
Mr John Carey: No—
The Speaker: Members!
(Interruption from
the gallery.)
The Speaker: Excuse me, there will be no commentary
from up in the public gallery. If there is any further commentary, I will have
to get you removed. Carry on, minister.
Mr John Carey: Let us be clear on the Liberal Party's social
housing policies. At the last election, the member's party actually endorsed
our government's program. The Liberal Party policy specifically endorsed our
spot-purchasing program delivery. The Liberal Party said that it would do no
harm to our program. That was the Liberal Party's specific policy. It also
endorsed the findings of the homelessness inquiry. Hon Steven Martin, who was
the shadow Minister for Housing, made it very clear on early intervention,
support and so forth. Respectfully, the opposition is not consistent on these
matters whatsoever. It has never had a social housing policy and it has never—
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition! Do not keep
interjecting.
Mr John Carey: The opposition has never had a serious
commitment to social housing. That is the case. That was the case for both the
Nationals WA and the Liberal Party before the last election. We are serious. We
are delivering social housing to meet the needs of vulnerable people, but, as I
said, where there are issues of concern and antisocial behaviour, we take it
seriously and we work with other relevant agencies.
