I refer to the Dampier Peninsular Sport and
Recreation Strategic Plan 2011, and I ask: (a) what recommendations from that report have been implemented so
far; (b) what plans does the Government
have to implement the balance of the recommendations; and (c) will the Government be providing funding for a
swimming pool at Beagle Bay community, and if yes, when, and if not, why
not?

(a) Recommendations implemented so far;
· Ardyaloon Community Basketball / Netball Courts - upgrade surface, power and lighting;
· Beagle Bay Community - existing oval upgrade including leveing, regrassing, provision of bollards, maintenance and mowing program;
· Djarindjin-Lombardia Community - development of a BMX/Cycling facility;
· Development of a Junior Sports Plan for all communities within the Dampier Peninsula.
· These are in addition to the construction and ongoing maintenance of a full sized AFL football oval in Ardyaloon.
(b) The responsibility lies within the Local Authority and the Communities to identify priorities within the plan and to work with State and Federal government agencies where appropriate. No applications have been received by the Department of Sport and Recreation from the communities or from the Shire of Broome to progress any of the other recommendations.
(c) The Beagle Bay Community and Local Authority have been encouraged by the Department of Sport and Recreation to undertake a needs analysis and feasibility study to examine the viability of a swimming pool at Beagle Bay. Any investment in a swimming pool without undertaking the appropriate level of planning would be premature.
