METRONET — HOUSING PACKAGE
312. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Transport:
I refer to a statement dated 18
February 2022 on the Metronet website titled ''Housing Diversity
Pipeline to boost social housing and support jobs''.
(1) Since the
statement was made 12 months ago, what progress has been made to turn some 8 000
hectares of land around new stations into desirable places for people to live,
work and play in?
(2) What results does the minister
expect to see before the end of this parliamentary term?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) Expression
of interests that closed in October 2022 were sought for eight metropolitan and
one regional site, three of which are within walking distance of Metronet
stations projects. The EOI received a strong response from industry. Offers
have been evaluated and proposals are now being short-listed. The Metronet
station precincts gateway document was released to guide future planning
and development of land around Metronet stations as desirable and liveable
places. The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage
has commenced the preparation of enabling planning frameworks around Whiteman
Park, Malaga , Morley and Karnup stations, and the future Bennett Springs
East station. The frameworks include precinct structure
plans and planning scheme amendments. DevelopmentWA is progressing precinct
planning and design within the Metronet east redevelopment area, which
includes Midland, Bayswater and High Wycombe station precincts.
The
Metronet program is delivering significant public realm improvements in the
areas surrounding new stations, including transforming approximately six
hectares of land currently occupied by rail lines into parkland for the
enjoyment of existing and future residents in Victoria Park and Carlisle.
Investment in precinct-enabling infrastructure and community facilities will
stimulate development and enhance community amenity in Metronet precincts.
