The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) state on their website that the Department employs around 1900 staff as ‘permanent staffers, contractors, casual and seasonal workers and trainees in cities and towns as well as in some of the most remote areas of the state’ (August 2009), and I ask -
(1) How many of these staff have lost their jobs after the 2009 - 2010 budget?
(2) What positions have been defunded (if any), and please provide full details?

(1) The number of staff employed by the Department of Environment and Conservation is expected to increase in 2009-10. Overall the total FTE for the Department is estimated to increase from 1,944 FTEs in 2008-09 to 1,970 FTEs in 2009-10.
(2) No positions have been defunded.
