Secret Harbour Golf Links irrigates 50 hectares of golf course and 38.5 hectares of public open space. Groundwater use is as follows: 1993/1994 1,042,944 kL/annum 1994/1995 925,460 kL/annum 1995/1996 641,885 kL/annum 1996/1997 581,896 kL/annum 1997/1998 617,246 kL/annum 1998/1999 728,088 kL/annum 1999/2000 702,963 kL/annum 2000/2001 822,518 kL/annum 2001/2002 587,260 kL/annum The operators of the golf course implemented a Drought Response Strategy for 2001/2002. The annual abstraction of 587,260 kL for this period, demonstrated the success of this program. The Links at Kennedy Bay Golf Course is licensed to extract 320,000 kL/annum. The company has reported that since 1997 groundwater abstraction has been within this limit. In 2001 Kennedy Bay Golf Course applied for an additional 680,000 kL/annum for the extension of the golf course, however the Water and Rivers Commission refused the application on the grounds of unacceptable environmental impacts.
