GORGON GAS PROJECT — BARROW ISLAND
934. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the Minister
for Environment:
I refer to the Gorgon gas project on Barrow Island being
undertaken by Chevron Australia.
(1) Has there
been any damage to the natural environment, including the landscape, flora and
fauna, of Barrow Island during the past month?
(2) If yes to (1) what was the nature of the damage, and what
caused it?
(3) Have there been any fires on Barrow Island in the past
month?
(4) If yes to (3) what caused the fires, and what was the
extent of the damage?

(1)–(2) Construction
of the Gorgon Gas project on Barrow Island is continuing in accordance with
stringent environmental conditions under ministerial statement 800 for the
Gorgon gas development revised and expanded proposal, and ministerial statement
769 for the Jansz feed gas pipeline.
(3)–(4) No.
