FOREST PRODUCTS COMMISSION — JARRAH RAILWAY
SLEEPERS
69. Hon GIZ WATSON to the minister representing the
Minister for Forestry:
I refer to the current and future production of jarrah
railway sleepers at Western Australian timber mills.
(1) What
quantity, in number and volume, of sleepers has been produced each year for the
past five years?
(2) What was
the average cost per sleeper to purchasers?
(3) Who
purchased the sleepers?
(4) Are there
ongoing contracts for sleepers?
(5) If yes to
(4), what quantity, in number and volume, is still to be produced?
(6) At which
mills are these sleepers referred to in parts (1) and (4) being milled?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(6)
While the Forest Products Commission supplies jarrah timber to mills, it does
not keep comprehensive records of the quantity, price and customers and the
contractual arrangements for the production and sale of jarrah railway sleepers
by those mills.
