I thank the member for the question. The Minister for Veterans and I
did announce free public transport for Anzac Day to commemorate the 100 th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. I trust also that this will provide an
incentive for people to mark this special occasion in our calendar. It is an
opportunity for people to attend what will potentially be a really special
event this year, and I hope that we see as many people as possible there.
The Public Transport Authority is doing its bit to ensure that people
have the opportunity to attend. We are commencing train services, depending on
the line, from 2.30 or 3.00 in the morning that will connect through to the
Esplanade station. People who are coming in from the Fremantle, Midland or
Armadale lines will need to alight at Perth Central and catch the train down to
the Esplanade, but there we will have 150 buses to provide a shuttle service up
to the corner of Kings Park Road and Havelock Street. The service will not be
the same as last year, when we were able to drop people a lot closer, because
we are anticipating tens of thousands of people this year at the dawn service
in Kings Park. We want to make sure that this government provides the best
possible opportunity for all members of the community to attend this year's
dawn service. We really look forward to marking this occasion.
