I refer to Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Refuges funded by the Department of Communities located in regional Western Australia, and I ask:(a) does the Department collect data on the distance travelled by victim survivors to access:(i) crisis accommodation; and(ii) specialist FDV support services;(b) if yes to (a), what is the average distance travelled for each;(c) if no (a), why not;(d) what data, including geographic or location-based data, is used by the Department to determine the location of new FDV refuges or service; and(e) in planning any new refuges or service expansions since 1 July 2023, what geographic or regional access factors were considered?

(c – e) The family and domestic violence service system includes a range of responses from intensive to brief interventions, as well as helplines. The Department of Communities (Communities) funds a range of services across the service continuum, enabling access to support for all Western Australians regardless of their geographical location.
Communities use a range of data to inform the location of new family and domestic violence services. This includes Specialist Homelessness Services data and Australian Bureau of Statistics data and prevalence indicators. This is complemented by service mapping and geographic analysis as well as consultation with service providers and community stakeholders.
