Minister for Environment:
I refer to the hardwood harvesting
ban due to take full effect at the commencement of the new forest management
plan in 2024.
(1) Was the South West Aboriginal
Land and Sea Council consulted before the announcement of the ban?
(a) If yes, will the minister please
table the date and nature of each incidence?
(b) If no, why not?
(2) Has the South
West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council been consulted as part of preparations for
the new forest management plan?
(a) If yes, will the minister please
table the date and nature of each incidence?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer is provided on behalf of the
Minister for Environment.
(1) (a)–(b) The policy direction for the draft forest
management plan 2024–2033 was a decision of government . The development of the draft forest management
plan 2024–2033 included extensive consultation with stakeholders
over an extended period and is now open for public comment.
(2) (a) The
Conservation and Parks Commission and the Department of Biodiversity,
Conservation and Attractions consulted with the South West Aboriginal Land and
Sea Council as part of the preparation of the draft forest management plan 2024–2033.
This included correspondence dated 21 December 2021, 7 June 2022, 9 June 2022
and 16 October 2022; a formal meeting on 14 January 2022; and informal
discussions at officer level.
(b) Not
applicable.
