TOURISM — FILMING MURUJUGA ROCK ART
I refer to “The Extraordinary Taxi Ride” and its proposal to film or indeed encourage the filming of Murujuga rock art. (1) What process has been engaged in to ensure that all filming or photography is done with the full and informed consent of the five signatory groups of the Burrup and Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement—namely, the Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Yaburara, Mardudhunera and the Wong-goo-tt-oo? (2) Given that all the major rock art sites are covered by the Dampier Archipelago national heritage listed area, what negotiations have been entered into with the federal government? (3) Due to the lack of management of the area and increased vandalism of the rock art, does the minister think it appropriate to encourage tourism to this area until such time as rangers are employed to monitor and protect the area? Hon DONNA FARAGHER
