ROAD SAFETY — TOWARDS ZERO
I have a supplementary question. Is it not the case that the minister’s mean refusal to fund Towards Zero is a false economy when there is the potential to save the Western Australian community up to $4.1 billion in unnecessary costs associated with road trauma? Mr R.F. JOHNSON

The simple answer to that is no. I am a little surprised that the member for Girrawheen is using deaths and serious injuries on our roads to try to score political points. Mr E.S. Ripper : She is trying to get you to take action. The SPEAKER : Leader of the Opposition! Mr R.F. JOHNSON : She knows of the commitment I and this government have in implementing — Ms M.M. Quirk : You have to back it with money, minister. Mr R.F. JOHNSON : The member for Girrawheen left the Towards Zero strategy languishing. It was handed to the previous Labor minister who could have done something about it. Ms M.M. Quirk : It was launched the day before the election. Several members interjected. Mr R.F. JOHNSON : She should not tell me we have not shown commitment. We show absolute commitment to this, and over the next few years I will show her even more commitment by this government to road safety.
